Thank you for considering sharing your knowledge and expertise at the 2018 Government IT Symposium! GTS Educational Events is requesting proposals for vendor neutral sessions. Vendor neutral sessions may not promote a vendor’s particular platform, system, product line, technology, methodology, etc.

Conference Background
For over 36 years GTS Educational Events has produced The Government IT Symposium, the annual meeting and education event for the Government IT community and its private and civic sector partners. This year the Symposium will be held December 4-6, 2018 at the Saint Paul RiverCentre. The Government IT Symposium addresses critical issues of Government IT through keynote presentations, interactive learning opportunities, training, tradeshow/innovation expo and networking. This renowned event engages, inspires and informs through dynamic content and access to cutting edge professional resources.

We encourage all presenters to design their session to be engaging and interactive. Available presentation formats include:
Formal Presentation (60-minute or 90- minute session)
Talking from the front of the room supported by presentation slides. A presentation can be a case study, research report, demonstration, or informational session about a topic of interest. The presentation may include a successful design approach, management effort, or technology implementation. You may also choose to demonstrate an application using real-world examples and scenarios. Your presentation must be informative and not a commercial for a specific product.
Workshop (60-minute or 90-minute session)
Formal presentation with participatory learning. Participants are given the opportunity to learn by doing through a learning activity that reinforces concepts taught. At least one-third of the session time should be devoted to a participatory activity.
Panel Discussions (60-minute or 90-minute session)
Less formal style of reporting results of research or experiences. Talking from the front of the room supported by presentation slides. Limited to 2 -3 panelists plus moderator.
Pre-Conference Deep Dive Session (4.5 or 7 hour session on the Pre-Conference Day, Tuesday, December 4, 2023)
In-depth workshops that incorporate a variety of presentation methods to engage attendees, including: mini lectures, large and small group discussions, individual and group exercises, demonstrations, hands-on computer work, etc.
New this year! Ignite Session (5 minute presentation on Wednesday, December 5, 2023)
Ignite sessions are intended to stimulate the exchange of new and exciting ideas in a short time period. Ignite-style sessions will take place during the 90 minute time slot on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. These sessions consist of between six and ten 5-minute talks presented in rapid-fire style and organized to address a common theme. Although there will be no time scheduled between individual presentations for questions and answers, the remainder of the session time (typically at least 30 minutes) will be used for extended discussion.
This year we are soliciting session proposals for the following subject area tracks. Examples of specific topics within each track are NOT inclusive – other topics that fit within the subject areas are welcome.

How will you present your session in a way that is accessible (slides, videos, etc.) to everyone who attends? NOTE: All electronic files provided to GTS for attendees are required to be accessible. Visit the State of Minnesota’s accessible documents page for training and other resources.
All proposals for the 2018 Government IT Symposium are reviewed and selected by the Content Committee. The primary criteria for acceptance includes:
Vendor Neutral – Is the topic vendor neutral? Proposals will not be selected that promote a particular vendor platform, technology, product or service. A limited number of sponsored vendor sessions are available – see Sponsor/Exhibitor Prospectus for more information.
Requested Topic – Is your proposal related to one of the Requested Topics listed in the category?
Timely – Does the topic address a current or emerging concern?
Relevant – How significant is the topic to the audience?
Broad Appeal – Is the topic of interest to a broad base of people, suitable for a large event?
Clarity – Is the session title and description clear and understandable? Are there specific learning objectives?
Engaging – Is the session designed to be interactive and engage the audience?
Accessible – Is the session content and materials designed to be inclusive of audiences?
If a proposal is accepted, the lead presenter will be notified by mid-August.

The Content Committee will schedule selected sessions. All types of sessions will be scheduled to minimize topic overlap. Sessions may be scheduled for the follow timeslots:

Once a session has been accepted and listed online, cancellation imposes a serious burden. Do not submit a proposal if you are uncertain that you will be able to fulfill your obligation to organize and conduct the session. If you are unable to present your session, please try to find a substitute presenter who can present in your place.
Presenters who need to cancel their session need to send an email to Caitlin Pinick at [email protected] as soon as possible so the session time slot can be filled. Presenters who cancel their session after September 15, 2023 may not be invited back to present at future Symposiums.

You must submit your proposal using the online submission form. Proposals sent by email will not be considered. When you submit your proposal, you will be automatically notified of receipt by an email sent to the address that you provide. If you do not receive such a notification, please contact Event Manager, Caitlin Pinick at [email protected] to confirm that your proposal was received. You will be able to return to the proposal to edit it until the submission deadline on July 18, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. CST. Information on how to do so will be included in the automated email.
To make updates or changes to an existing proposal, click “Manage Existing Proposal” and log in with the email used in your proposal submission.
