T15 Beyond SQL: Oracle Analytic Functions

Relational database management systems and Structured Query Processing (SQL) have been in use for On-line Transaction Processing (OLTP) since early 1980’s. Recently, On-line Analytical Processing (OLAP) applications have become necessary tools for decision makers and business analysts. Although it is possible to use native SQL to perform analytics, this approach is very cumbersome and has many shortcomings.
Oracle analytical functions are extensions to standard SQL statements that can be used to answer many Decision Support Systems (DSS) and data warehousing types of questions. By attending this session, you will learn how to work with Oracle’s analytical functions such as Cubes, Rollups, Ranking, Top-N, Bottom-N, etc. for real-life type of environments that can be very useful in business analysis. Attendees will have the opportunity to apply what we discuss in this session to answer questions similar to the one that they would face in real life.
