Keynote and Featured Speaker

Katie White, Author & Educational Consultant

Softening the Edges
Sometimes, despite our best intentions and dedicated work, our assessment practices can provide challenges for both our students and ourselves. This keynote explores assessment in a new way, using the analogies of hard and soft edges. We will reflect on ways the "edges" of our assessment practices make or break relationships and the learning these relationships are intended to support within a classroom setting. In order to refine our assessment practices, we will explore the ways strong assessment design can "soften the edges" for educators and learners by attending to the needs of everyone involved in the assessment conversation.

Don't miss Katie's breakout sessions Learning to Soften the Hard Edges and The Power of a Learning Continuum.

Dr. Clay Cook, Associate Professor, Department of Educational Psychology, University of Minnesota

Adult Behavior Must Change Before Student Outcomes Will Change
This TED-like talk will focus on how adult behavior change is necessary to promote changes in student outcomes. Specifically, this talk will discuss how student outcomes change when the primary adults in their lives, parents and educators, alter and align their behavior to be more nurturing, predictable, and responsive. This talk will motivate and inspire educators to recognize all the potential changes that are under their control to create healthy learning environments that promote student engagement, wellbeing, and performance and promote more equitable outcomes for all.
