Faculty Information Adam Arvidson, ASLA, is a landscape architect with 11 years of experience in master planning, development planning, and the design of parks, trail systems, plazas and streetscapes. He is founder of Treeline, a design and writing consultancy which offers landscape architectural, writing-for-hire and educational services to public & private clients. Phil Carlson has consulted on planning issues for 30+ years with the firm of Bonestroo. In addition to writing zoning ordinances for numerous communities, he wrote the design guidelines for Burnsville’s Heart of the City development, West St. Paul’s Robert Street corridor and Mankato’s Urban Design Framework. Jenna Fletcher is program coordinator for Embrace Open Space (EOS), a collaborative including non-profits, local and state governments, and private-sector consultants with a goal of fostering conservation and stewardship of natural areas and parks, lakes and rivers in the eleven-county Twin Cities area. Jenna has also worked as a policy analyst for state and federal forestry agencies and ICF Consulting, a national environmental public policy consulting firm. Eric Hedtke has represented and advised Minnesota cities, counties and townships on land use matters for 11 years. Currently an attorney with the Minnesota Association of Townships, his legal career has focused on local government as a city and town attorney and on behalf of the Minnesota Counties Insurance Trust. Joel Jamnik, a graduate of St. Cloud State University and William Mitchell College of Law, served as Legislative Counsel for the League of Minnesota Cities. He is currently a partner at Campbell Knutson, P.A., specializing in the representation of cities and other local governments. Richard Krier has developed a special interest in building and sustaining community character during his 30+ years of planning and real estate development experience. He has used his approach with success in new large planned communities, older redevelopments and overall community plans. He is a principal with Midwest Planning & Design and serves as Planning & Zoning Administrator for the City of Minnetonka Beach. Kris Larson, Director of Conservation for the Minnesota Land Trust, oversees the land protection efforts of the Trust. He works with local governments, land use consultants and developers to implement conservation development strategies to preserve important community resources and has helped author numerous publications, including the Conservation Design Portfolio: Preserving Minnesota Landscapes through Creative Development. Bob Lockyear has extensive hands-on experience in both writing and implementing zoning and subdivision ordinances. He has worked for city, town, county and state planning departments in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota most recently as Planning Director for Washington County. Jay Michels is a Project Manager with Emmons & Oliver Resources. He is a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control, with over 25 years of experience in construction management, erosion control and stormwater management. The emphasis of his work is in low impact development project design, project management, storm water program development and outreach, and education. Desyl Peterson has been Minnetonka City Attorney since 1984. She has been President of the Minnesota City Attorneys Association, the Hennepin County Local Government Law Committee and a member of the League of Minnesota Cities Board of Directors. Cordelia Pierson, Program Director, leads the Trust for Public Land’s Parks for People - Twin Cities program. Cordelia has developed a close working relationship with citizens, nonprofits, and agencies in the Twin Cities through her nine years of work at the Trust for Public Land and as a community volunteer. She provides conservation finance expertise with her experience in state and local government relations and public finance. Paul Radomski, a research scientist with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, has worked for 20 years on issues such as water level regulation, fish harvest quota management, sport fishing regulations and shoreline alteration/development. He was the science advisor for Minnesota’s Alternative Shoreland Management Standards project. Brian Ross, co-founder of CR Planning, has worked with many communities on sustainable development natural resource policies, programs and regulations, including shoreland ordinances. He was primary author of the State of Minnesota’s guidebook on sustainable development practices, From Policy to Reality: Model Ordinances for Sustainable Development and a major contributor to the State’s guide to comprehensive planning, Under Construction. John Shardlow is a principal with Bonestroo, consulting planners and landscape architects. In 26+ years of professional practice, he has assisted nearly 100 cities and counties in preparing and implementing their comp plans, zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations. John Slack is a registered Landscape Architect with Bonestroo. He has over 11 years experience working with both public and private sector clients on diverse and complex projects. The focus of his work is urban redevelopment, streetscape, public open space and site planning. John Sumption, Environmental Services Director, has worked for Cass County for 31 years. As Director, John oversees delivery of service and regulation relating to planning, zoning, and solid waste. He supervises surface water quality programs, reviews development and erosion control plans, and administers the Wetlands Conservation Act and the Comprehensive Local Water Management Plan. Richard Thompson’s background includes a wide range of positions in the field of land use planning. He has been St. Croix County (WI) planning director, a sector representative and then manager of comprehensive plan reviews at the Metropolitan Council, and currently with TKDA Consulting Engineers, Architects and Planners. In that capacity, he has served as town and city planner for various jurisdictions, handling all aspects of local planning needs. C. John Uban, Principal with Bonestroo, has 30+ years experience in planning and design projects in the Upper Midwest, and has been lead planner for numerous residential subdivisions on behalf of major developers and builders in the Twin Cities area. |
